Hear from the people who have been a part of our 20-year journey

20 Years CYLP

A MILESTONE WORTH CELEBRATING

More than 20 years ago, Cape York leaders drew a line in the sand. To address spiralling dysfunction and passive welfare, they came together at a series of summits and agreed to take responsibility for the future of their communities. A top priority on the list: education.

With few secondary schools and no universities in the region, many young people were missing out on an education. In response, Cape York Leaders Program (CYLP) was launched to break this cycle and create a new generation of empowered Indigenous leaders.

Since then, CYLP alumni have gone on to become doctors, lawyers, educators and community leaders. Many have returned to Cape York community to contribute to their communities.

To mark our 20-year milestone, we are sharing the voices of our alumni, students, parents and educators that will grow throughout the year.

Join us in celebrating these voices and the legacy they have created.
