CAPE YORK LEADERS PROGRAM

Cape York Leaders Program (CYLP) is an Indigenous-led initiative of Cape York Partnership. Since 2005, CYLP has been empowering young Indigenous Leaders from Cape York through secondary and tertiary scholarships. Our Leaders attend the best educational institutes throughout Australia to help them reach their potential.

During their studies, they benefit from a comprehensive support and skills-building program, including ongoing case management, tutors, extracurricular leadership activities and mentoring. Every CYLP student graduates with the skills and confidence to lead and be a role model for their community.

More than 540 First Nations students have receieved a scholarship from the Cape York Leaders Program. Our Alumni can be found right throughout Australia working in a wide variety of influential roles, with many returning to their home community to share their knowledge and skills.

“A good leader helps others who need help. Here at school, it means helping out the younger kids with little things every day, like finding their classrooms and sticking to their timetable. A good leader also gives back to their community.”
