Kylie Mitchell
Student Support Officer: Townsville, Charters Towers and Abergowrie
Kylie is the Student Support Officer (SSO) of the Townsville region. She has over 10 years working in Indigenous Education and Indigenous Student Support at our Partner Schools, The Cathedral School and Columba Catholic College. During that time, she supported several CYLP students to successfully complete secondary school. Kylie’s extensive experience in education includes providing classroom support to students and teachers, assisting teachers with implementing Indigenous Perspectives in the curriculum and sharing essential cultural knowledge and understanding with teaching and boarding staff to ensure the students experience a safe and comfortable transition to boarding school.
Working with secondary students is where Kylie thrives. For her, the most rewarding aspect of working with secondary students is when they realise that their culture and knowledge is their strength, and they grow proud of their identity and are no longer afraid of standing out.
Connection to Country: Mother’s side: Gudjala; Father’s side: Kuku Djungan and Warrgamay. Kylie was born and raised in Charters Towers on her Grandmother’s country.
